Princeton's SELECT Brushes About our Filbert Grainers, Round Blenders, Deerfoots, Lunars and Chisels...Why Select?Find the answer below... Princeton and I began working on Select several years ago with the goal to offer a full range of brushes which served the special requirements of the many artists and painters in the market. We invited several experts such as Lydia Steeves, Holly Hanley and Mary Owens to work with us in order to ensure that the brushes they use were developed to their standards and specifications. My goal was to ensure the creation of the Lunar Blender. The Lunar, although shaped like a filbert is a stiffer blend offering good spring, a good chisel edge and the ability to separate in order to create animal hair, foliage and hair. Although there are similar attempts at the Lunar in the market, our brush has a few key differences in construction and bristle. The brush is great for oil and acrylic due to the stiffness of the blend. My work with chisel blenders was extremely important for me. Painting fur and feathers requires a sharp chisel edge with good snap. We developed an affordable brush with great spring which works beautifully in oil and acrylic. Lydia's Filbert Grainers were designed by her for fur techniques. Truthfully the best grainer I've used for painting animals in acrylic. It can also be used for oils, when the paint is slightly thinned. For techniques that create fine fur and hair, Lydia has an exceptional video and her website is a fantastic resource. Holly's Deerfoot's took us some time. Holly takes great care in the performance of her Deerfoot, as her technique requires specific applicaitons. The Deerfoot must retain its shape and work with textures. Mary Owens has a very special rouging technique based on the application of transparent layers of oil paint. I won't pretend to be an expert as I am not...Mary is. :). The brush used must perform in a specific manner and recently our Round Blenders were modified to Mary's specs and she now has a utube video on their performance. They are a well made brush which perform beautifully. Various aspects of the brush line were specifically created by top artists in the industry. The remainder of the brush line offers a wide range of rounds, flats and filberts with are offered at an incredible price! |
