meet the artist – Anne-Marie Boisvert
Where you are located: My studio is located in Boisbriand, Quebec, Canada
Company Name: Diffuzart and L’Atelier d’Anne-Marie (Anne-Marie’s Studio) photo
Preferred Medium: Acrylic is my favorite medium but I have worked in several others like oils, pastels, watercolor, clay sculpture etc.
What would you call your ‘style’? Most of the time I paint figurative.
What are you currently working on? I Love to experiment new mediums, testing products, creating new art work; Mixed-media is actually something I wish to explore more in the future.
Who are your art heros? I love impressionist painters such as Monet, Manet, Renoir and also Marc-Aurele Fortin, Jean-Paul Lemieux etc.
What qualities make your art distinctively you? My personal touch and interpretation of a photograph, I love to add some new ‘’mise en scène’’ (scenic interpretation). I am playing a lot with contrasting color schemes; superposition, brushing etc. are my particular techniques.
When do you create? Day or late night
Do you sketch or keep an idea journal? (photo) I do sketch, but not enough. I always say to my students that sketching is like doing personal training workshop. To achieve a healthy life we must do physical exercises. This is the same with sketching.
What do you do when you hit a creative block? Not sure of the meaning of your question but I’ll respond by saying If the inspiration is there we are blessed and must make it profitable and share it with others.
Do you teach? What and why? Yes I teach in my studio and sometime in artistic shops or conventions. In the past, I taught a lot considering the DVD videos, books and patterns I published. I am a technical artistic adviser, so my goal is to plan classes and/or publications intended to teach new artistic knowledge. In 2014 I have fantastic mixed media classes that instruct on collage, image transfer, texture paste and many other great techniques that explore creativity.
What do you listen to when you create? I did try creating with music but it don’t seem to work for me; I need quiet studio
What other things do you like to do creatively? I am a nature contemplator.
What are your passions outside of art? Sports like kayaking, sailing, ski, trekking
Do you have a special or signature technique , for example a special foliage technique, hair technique, wash, decoupage or mixed media technique with a specific brush or tool? I always love painting on textured surfaces; that is maybe one of the reason that make me appreciate wood surfaces. I really appreciate the catalyst tools. These blades are very versatile object to paint with. Very effective to put texture paste and engraving on canvas, wood etc. When dry, I do paint and brush these textures motifs and it make wonderful effects. photo
