meet the artist – Jenn Mason
Today we chat with Jenn Mason, Editorial Director at F+W (Cloth, Paper, Scissors Magazine, Studios Magazine) and curator of all things fabulous. Not only does Jenn run some amazing magazines, but she is a great artist and teacher in her own right.
Preferred Medium: Mixed Media of all types
What would you call your ‘style’? Whimsically thoughtful
What is a favorite piece of art you created and why? I like this piece called Three of Six because it is a great example of my storytelling in art. It makes me smile when I think of it. I sold the piece to a private collector almost immediately after I made it so perhaps it has a bit of an ethereal feel to me. The tomato piece is also a favorite that came from a fun food series I worked on. I enjoy the depth of color and texture that I achieved in this series and it’s something that I occasionally go back to.
Where do you create? In my home studio. I used to also host Open Studios in my home but I keep very busy as Editorial Director for the Mixed-media Group at F+W Media and have considerably less time for art.
What do you do when you hit a creative block? I try to always work on a full series so if I get stuck on one piece, I just shift my focus to one of the other pieces. It always works.
What other things do you like to do creatively? I live creatively but I wouldn’t say there is one particular thing I would mention—if I’m doing something, I’m doing it creatively—it bores me to be any other way.
Do you have a favorite Princeton product? I have the Sensu brush! I use it with my ipad to sketch and doodle for fun. LOVE it!
