meet the artist – Danielle Donaldson
Today we welcome Danielle Donaldson: Painter, Illustrator, Teacher, Storyteller.
Current Residence: Granite Bay, California
Preferred Medium: Anything that involves paint, pens, pencils and paper
What would you call your ‘style’? The style that I hear most often is whimsical – but – that doesn’t quite fit who I am. I think that I would describe myself as a visual story-teller.
What are you currently working on? Currently, I am working on how to incorporate patterned paper with some new watercolors.
What is a favorite piece of art you created and why? Wow, that’s a hard one! I would have to say sketchGIRL. She just really seems to feel like me if I were on a canvas. I have a series of tutuGIRL watercolors that really seem to resonate with people. They are amazingly fun to create. I also have a soft spot for my whale piece. So hard to choose!
Who are your art heros? Well. That is a really long list. I count several of them as my friends – Kelly Barton, Jeanne Oliver and Jen Osborn especially. Each have completely different styles and inspire me on so many levels since I know them. I love Cori Dantini, Jill Ricci and Alisa Burke from afar.
What qualities make your art distinctively you? I think most would say that I have a very defined color palette (meaning I like to use every color, every time J ) and that I add layers and layers of detail in a thoughtful but playful way which makes you want to look at it a bit longer.
